I don't know why kids are so depressed today. It's quite sad, really.

When I was young, the world seemed new. We had won World War II. There were plenty of jobs to go around. I went to college and became an engineer.

The music was better- Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Perry Como, Patsy Cline. Hell, even Elvis wasn't too bad. Sure we had our sad sack crooners, but you could actually understand the lyrics and the music didn't make you reach for that bottle of Excedrin.

With the Cold War and all that garbage, I don't believe the world was any safer than it is now. Still, life was simpler. Things were cheaper and there weren't all these technical doodads to confuse and take away our humanity.

Frankly, I feel sorry for these kids. I didn't want all this bad stuff to out there for my children and grandchildren. The wars, diseases, our alienation from fellow humans. I may be a Republican, but I ain't no war-monger.

The future looks grim.

For those of you that don't already know, today, March 2nd, is voting day here in California.

As soon as Matlock is over, I plan to go vote. I have noticed that a lot of you younger folks don't vote.

Well, I vote. As do most of the folks in my generation. I've worked hard all my life to earn a decent retirement, so I'm going to do what I can as a citizen to protect the government from taking it away.

Education? Shucks! I got one foot in the grave already, think I care about these kids? That might take away from my social security! These kids are all stupid anyway. It's a lost cause.

Budget? Who cares about the stinkin' budget. I won't be alive to pay the consequences. I'll vote for the easiest solution that won't touch my social security or medicare.

Presidential candidate? Why, Bush, of course! I've been voting Republican for years. I'm a red-blooded, CHRISTIAN American, after all. "One nation under GOD" is our motto, isn't it?

Well I know a lot of you youngsters disagree with me. Sure, you all whine about it, but very few of you take action. That's why us older and wealthier conservative folks are running the country.

If you don't like it, vote.

I almost slipped and broke my hip on the way to the bus stop today.
Some stupid moron kid sped by in his Japanese car, a thumpity-thump emanating from his radio. Can't understand what the hell those guys are saying, except the F-word. These goons have lost all respect for the elderly.

Good news: Carrow's reintroduced the fried chicken livers meal to the Senior Menu. Bob gave me the horn in the Carrow's parking lot.
